English Schools Track and Field Championships 2019

ENGLISH SCHOOLS TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019
This weekend saw the prestigious English Schools National Track and Field Championships held at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. This event is renowned as the 4th biggest Track and Field event in the world behind the Olympics, World and European Championships and sees some of the best young athletes in the country represent their county for the right to be crowned English Schools Champion in their event. It is one of the highlights of the junior track and field calendar. Qualification is a culmination of success at County and Regional level, along with the need to achieve the qualifying times or distances for their event.
This year Thetford AC had three athletes qualify in their chosen events. These athletes were Jessica Norkett, Asha Soanes and James Peck.
Jess, qualifying for the third year in succession, was part of the Norfolk Schools team. Jess contested the Intermediate Girls 1500m, finishing in 7th place in heat 1 and finding herself only 0.4 second off making the final.
Fellow Thetford AC athlete Asha, representing Norfolk Schools for the second time, contested the Intermediate Girls Long Jump finishing in 25th place overall.
Qualifying for the first time and representing Suffolk Schools, James contested the Junior Boys 1500m. James had a great race finishing in 3rd place in his heat and following it up with a 7th place finish in the final.
All athletes should be very proud of their achievements, showing dedication and commitment in order to gain selection for these championships.
