Charlotte and Simon Smith travelled to Woodhorn Museum (near Newcastle) to take part in the Triathlon England Standard Distance Championships at the weekend. The standard distance race (1500m lake swim, 28 mile bike and 6 mile run) was held at the museum sight where the fast and furious bike course incorporated a scenic coastal route and the trail run course flowed around the lake and through transition several times to engage with some very supportive spectators. After a forecast of heavy showers the weather was warm and breezy with Simon finishing in 2:19:19 for 6th place in his age group. Charlotte completed the course in 2:29:22 to claim gold in her age group and an impressive 3rd place overall.
