This years South of England Track and Field Championships was held at Lee Valley Athletics
Centre.
The weekend proved successful with several Thetford athletes bringing home medals.
Ben Peck grabbed the first medal for Thetford with a superb 3rd place finish in the U13 boys
800m. Along with a bronze medal, Ben also ran a pb time of 2:16 in heat 3.
James Peck finished 5th in heat 1 of the U15 boys 1500m and gained qualification to the final
by being 3rd fastest loser. James then went on to finish 7th in a strong final running a time of
4:31.53.
Jessica Norkett was the sole Thetford female athlete competing and earned Thetford AC’s 2nd
medal of the championships. Jess came home with a bronze medal, racing to a 3rd place finish
in the U17 women’s 1500m with a time of 4:46.9, just 0.3 of a second behind 2nd place.
Another athlete with Thetford connections was Joe Smythe. Joe had an outstanding
Championships, winning his heat of the U17 mens 400m with a Pb time of 50.5. He then
followed this up with another pb in the final where he finished in 3rd place with a time of 49.9.
