Thetford Host Regional XC Championships

Around 450 athletes from across the county descended on Thetford’s Barnham Common on Sunday for this years Norfolk County Cross Country Championships, hosted by Thetford AC and its team of volunteers.

Competing for the first time in a TAC vest were Charlie Fowler and Olivia Pitchford, Charlie finished in a strong 15th place and Olivia came home in 29th. In the U13’s the boys were represented by Jake Dorbin in 10th place, Daniel Clouston in 14th and Ewan Peck in 23rd. Bethany Wilson was first home for Thetford with 9th place in the U13 Girls while Isabel Smythe came in for 14th and Alicia-Mae Howard in 20th. Both the boys and girls Thetford teams earned 4th place overall. The sole competitor for Thetford in the U15’s was Abigail Clouston finishing in 10th place. The last race for the juniors was the U17’s; contesting the 6.8km course Tyler Howard produced a strong performance racing home to an 8th place finish.

Jessica Norkett had a medal winning run finishing in 3rd place and taking home the bronze medal. This performance also guaranteed Jess a place in the Norfolk County team for the forthcoming National Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships in Loughborough.

There was more success to follow in the Senior races with Kevin Vaughan bringing home the gold medal and county title for the Masters 55-59 race. Another medal followed with Louise White produced a strong run to bring home a silver medal for the Ladies 40-44 category. Richard Crewe finished in 16th place in the Mens 40-44 category and Tim Gunter in 12th place in the 55-59 age group.
