Despite being a relatively small club Thetford AC celebrated
the fact that they had ten of their junior athletes selected
for the Norfolk County squad
to compete in the 2007 UK Challenge Inter Counties Cross
Country Championships & World Junior Trials at Wollaton
Park, Notts on Saturday 24th February. Although
only seven of them managed to run on the day this was still
a great club achievement and a true accomplishment of the
hard work put in over the season not only by the athletes
themselves but also the clubs Junior Squad cross country &
middle distance coach Gary Howe and head coach Mick Johnson.
On an extremely tough and muddy course all the athletes put
in some solid performances that proved their recent hard
training sessions are beginning to pay off.
In the U13 boys 3km race Ryan Skipp finished 273rd
in 16.25. In the U13 girls 3km race Tazmin Searle finished
255th in 18.08 with Tansy Makins finishing in 281st
in 19.09. In the U15 girls 4km race Charlotte Taverner
finished in 242nd place in 20.13. In the U15 boys
4.5km race a disappointed Thomas Francis had to drop out
with a pulled hamstring in sight of the finishing line. In
the U17 women’s race Tracy Wing finished 230th in
25.24. In the U20 women’s 6km race an outstanding
performance by Samantha Wing meant she finished 90th
in 31.04.
Charlotte and Thomas have also been selected for the Norfolk
County Schools Team in the ESAA English Schools Cross
Country Championships taking place at Temple Newsam Park,
Leeds on Saturday 24th March and Thomas is also
competing in the Junior Great North Run in Newcastle and
Gateshead in September
On Sunday 25th February 3 members of the clubs
Senior squads took part in the Bury 20 , all had a good race
and finished with respectable times. Corrina Smith 3:03:26,
Rebekah McNichol 3:22:47 & Nigel Kinsella 3:23:05. The club
also has seven members running in this years London
Marathon, they are Rita Norry, Jill Paremain, Rosemary

and Nigel Kinsella and in May Corrina Smith and Mandy
