That’s it for another year......
ROUND NORFOLK RELAY 2011
Hello All
Well, it's all over for another year. All the planning, worrying, last-minute changes, endless emails came to fruition on Saturday and Sunday. The Round Norfolk Relay is a great event, one of the highlights of the running year, and this year was no exception.
The result……………. we didn't win!!! But we did finish under the cut-off time, so are to be congratulated on a successful team effort. Our finishing time was 27 hours 58 minutes 32 seconds, we were 54th out of the 57 teams. Having said that, our average pace for the whole race was 8:35s, which considering some of the terrain and weather conditions we had to contend with is not to be sniffed at!!
My apologies for my appalling run, but in my defence I was drafted in at the last minute so didn't have a chance to recce the route. And I am renowned for falling over, so the boardwalk was always going to be dodgy!! I was just so gutted to put us in "catch-up" mode so early in the day.
However, some people had storming runs, particularly Ian on Stage 6, who came in 6 minutes under his predicted time. And the story of Nick as his cycle support (??!!) will be part of RNR folklore…… There were some fantastic individual performances, but I know that all the runners made their absolute best efforts for the team.
The event would not be possible without the support crew of cyclists, drivers, marshals and tea ladies who give up their time (and sleep) to ensure that the weekend is a success. On behalf of all the running team I would like to say thank you to you all for your efforts, not only at the weekend but also in organising everything beforehand. Without you the weekend would not happen, and I hope you all have (or soon will have!) your t-shirts or medals as a thank you from the runners for all your hard work.
More than anything else the RNR is about enjoying a weekend at the seaside with lots of laughs, some yummy cakes, a no sleep. Oh, and a few runs thrown in for good measure. It is a fantastic team event, and shows the best of our club. We may not be the fastest runners, but we work as a team and do it all in good humour and fantastic camaraderie.
Kind regards
Rosemary Matlock
