SOUTH OF ENGLAND REGIONAL COUNTY ACTION
Some of the best athletes from the South of England travelled to Oxford for the South of England Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships where strong winds proved challenging.
Having the honour of being selected to represent Norfolk were Thetford AC athletes Jessica Norkett, Tyler Howard and Abigail Clouston.
Abigail Clouston was the first of the Thetford trio to race, competing in the U15 Girls race which was contested over 4km. Abigail finished the tough course in 79th place (16:04) and was the 6th Norfolk athlete to cross the line.
Tyler Howard was next up in the 5km U17 men’s race. Against a strong field, Tyler finished the race in a competitive 95th place (18:29) and was the 7th Norfolk athlete Home.
Jessica Norkett was next up for Norfolk in the U17 women’s 5km race. With conditions deteriorating Jess competed well against a tough field, racing home to an impressive 11th place (18:48) and was the 1st Norfolk athlete to cross the finish line.
James and Ben Peck had the honour of representing Suffolk in the same competition. Ben Peck was first off in the U13 boys race, contested over 3km. Ben put in a superb bronze medal winning performance, coming home in 3rd place and was the 1st Suffolk athlete to finish.
James Peck contested the 4km Under 15 boys race for Suffolk, finishing in an impressive 13th place (14:10) and was the 2nd Suffolk athlete Home.
All of the Thetford athletes did themselves proud and will be working hard to try to impress the selectors and earn another chance to wear their County colours at the National Championships in March, if selected.
