Breckland 10k
The Breckland 10km is Thetford Athletic's signature race and is very much part of the local race calendar. The course is set in and around the pretty village of Croxton in May and is run along gently undulating country lanes.
The course is marshalled by our fantastic club members and the course is well signed. There are water stations at the halfway mark and at the finish along with the very much needed sponge station at the 8km mark.
Please note the races take place on open roads which are lightly used, but are not traffic-free. Our marshalls are there to keep you safe, so please listen to their instructions.
As the local athletics club, we very much value our relationship with the residents in Croxton, so ask that our competitors do the same!

Round Norfolk Relay
One of the highlights of the year for many TAC members is The Round Norfolk Relay. A unique event, as the name suggests it’s a relay event around the perimeter the county, approx. 200 miles in total, split up into 17 unequal length stages and it’s usually held mid-September.
TAC also provides the changeover point for the event in Thetford, where runners coming in off a gruelling 18.8 miles night stage from Scole, hand the baton over to their team mates heading out for a 15 mile stage to Feltwell. We also host the legendary midnight cafe for all the tired and weary runners, and their supporters that come through.
Would you like to run in the event? There are only 17 places, and many of these will be hotly contested. As it’s a competitive race, running pace, particularly over a distance is crucial, those able and willing to run the longer legs quickly will always be very welcome in the team. That said there’s plenty of time to get training, and fight for that place. TAC coaches are always available to help with structured training if required.
It’s not just about the runners though, we’re always after supporters, there are 12 legs that require cyclist support from end to end, and we also shadow the entire race in support vehicles, for logistical purposes, and to ensure the safety of the competitors during the night stages, so there’s support roles there as well. Then there’s the changeover at Thetford, marshals are needed, cakes to be baked ahead of the event, refreshments to be served on the night, it’s all vitally important.
It all sounds like a lot of effort, and it is, but there’s really nothing like the RNR. It’s so rewarding, pulling together as a team and seeing so many individuals push themselves to the limits.
