County Success

COUNTY SUCCESS FOR THETFORD ATHLETES

Both the Norfolk and Suffolk Track and Field Championships took place throughout the weekend with representatives from Thetford AC taking part in both events.

Thetford AC athletes took to the UEA Sportspark Arena for this years Norfolk County Track and Field Championships. The championships proved highly successful for Thetford AC with athletes taking away several championship titles, county records and personal best performances.

One highlight of the weekend was the double success for Jessica Norkett. Jess, running in the U17 women’s age group, ran a time of 4:42 to not only take the 1500m county title, but also break the county record and achieve the qualifying time for the English Schools Championships to be held in Birmingham in July. Jess then followed this up by triumphantly winning the 800m (2:16.8) to become double county champion, winning both middle distance events.

There were also medal winning performances on the track with Abigail Clouston taking a hard earned bronze medal in the U15 Girls 1500m (5:05.8). Abigail followed this up with a 5th place finish in the 800m (2:33.4). Daniel Clouston also took the U13 boys 1500m bronze medal (4:57.4) along with a 4th place finish in the 800m (2:31.4).

Bethany Wilson ran a large pb in the U13 Girls 1500m to finish 5th (5:23.4) whilst fellow Thetford athlete Jake Dorbin also ran a pb to come home in 5th place in the U13 boys 1500m (5:00.3).

Also competing in the U13 boys age group, Thomas Norkett took home a bronze medal in the Javelin throwing 13:58m and a 5th place finish in the Discus (10.71m).

Ewan Peck, competing in the U15 boys age group, finished in 7th place in the 1500m (5:58.6), 5th in the 100m (14.1) and 8th in the Long Jump (4.10m).

Alicia Mae Howard had a great Championships. She was victorious in the U13 Girls Hammer (16.03m), taking the county title and setting a new county record. Alicia also gained a bronze medal in the Javelin (15.04), 4th place in the Shot (6.42), 5th in the 200m (32.0) and a 6th place finish in the 100m (15.4).

Another athlete to have multiple success throughout the championships was Asha Soanes in the U17 age group. Asha earned a trio of silver medals including Shot (10.29), Javelin (32.57) and High Jump (1:35m). She also had a 4th place finish in the 80m hurdles (13.1) and a 6th place finish in the Long Jump (4.47m).

Cameron Try took the gold medal and became county champion in the U17 men’s Discus (37.45m), following this up with a silver medal in the Shot (11.03m).

In the U20 men’s age group, Thetford athlete Joseph Nicholson earned another county championship title in the Hammer (45.09m) along with a silver medal in the Discus (23.26m).

Floyd Scott contested the 100m, finishing in 6th place (12.3) and the 200m where he finished in 7th place (25.1).

Elsewhere, Thetford athletes James and Ben Peck took part in the Suffolk County Championships held in Ipswich. Both boys contested the U15 boys 1500m with James claiming the silver medal (4:20.3) and running a pb which was just outside the English Schools qualifying time. Ben was just behind in 3rd place (4:25.2) with a personal best performance.

Both the Norfolk and Suffolk County Championships were a great success for Thetford AC  and all athletes can be very proud of the their performances.
