Three of Thetford Athletics Club triathletes took on the challenge of the Nottingham Outlaw 70.3 Half Ironman at the weekend. Held at the watersports centre at Holme Pierrepont the race was started at 6am on Sunday morning in near perfect weather conditions. The lake was a little chilly for the 1900m swim course and there was a cool start to the 56 mile bike route but temperatures soon warmed up in time for the 13.1 mile run to follow. Charlotte Smith put in a top class performance to achieve a course pb in 5:01:21, Gary Malliband completed his first ever Half Ironman in 5:44:59 and Steve Dickens went on to achieve a massive course pb in 5:49:57.
